Women Deliver is now just around the corner, and we can’t wait to soon be seeing many of our network members, as well as expand into new circles!
This will be a global gathering taking place from 17th-20th July in Kigali, Rwanda, focusing on gender equality and the health, rights, and well-being of girls and women. It serves as a platform for advocates, policymakers, researchers, and activists from various sectors to come together.
But for many of us in the gender space, the countdown to this huge global conference has been a stressful period. That’s why much of our work at the conference will be led by our Self-Care in Social Justice programme!
Introducing: The Women in Dev Self-Care Lounge!
Amidst the rush of the conference sessions at the Kigali Conference Centre, we will be hosting a corner of calm.
Our Self-Care Lounge, complete with an art mural, reading corner, and a full schedule of sessions including yoga, dancing, drumming, and mental health workshops. We want this to be a sanctuary specifically designed to nurture the well-being of individuals.
Within this serene and peaceful environment, attendees can find solace, relax, unwind, and replenish their energy with resources such as adult coloring books, bath salts, sleep gummies, and more.
The Self-Care Lounge serves as a dedicated space for you to prioritise yourself, explore the transformative power of self-care, and connect with a community of like-minded individuals who are passionate about wellbeing.

Yoga Sessions

Indulge in a curated yoga experience designed exclusively for gender equality advocates, providing a powerful tool for managing stress and embracing self-care. Discover the transformative power of yoga with our local Rwandese instructor, Aline. Experience an uplifting and rejuvenating yoga experience that combines ancient wisdom with a Rwandan flair. Our skilled instructor will guide you through a series of yoga poses, breathing techniques, and meditation practices that promote physical strength, mental clarity, and inner peace. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced yogi, this session offers a unique opportunity to deepen your practice and cultivate a sense of harmony and well-being.
These three empowering sessions offer a valuable opportunity to prioritize your well-being, recharge your energy, and foster self-care practices amidst the demands of advocacy work. Come and join us on the mat before you start each day of the conference to nurture yourself, find inner peace, and strengthen your commitment to creating a more equal world.
Wellness Workshop – Imposter Syndrome
18th July, 9:30-10am & 4-4:30pm
Join our empowering workshop hosted by behavioural change expert, Shahroo Izadi, focused on addressing imposter syndrome, a common challenge many individuals face. Through a series of interactive activities, attendees will gain valuable insights and tools to overcome self-doubt and embrace their true capabilities. The workshop includes self-reflection worksheets that prompt attendees to explore their strengths, accomplishments, and challenges related to imposter syndrome. Attendees will also receive affirmation cards with empowering messages, serving as reminders of their potential, as well as success journals to help participants track and celebrate their achievements, building evidence of their competence and countering self-doubt. There will also be small group discussions where participants can share their experiences, offer support, and learn from one another.

Prioritising Care – Joy & Community Building for Social Justice through Creative Writing with Community Care Collective

As advocates and activists, we often put the cause first, however, we must ensure to prioritise community care & self-care at the very heart of the social justice movement. Not only is this a sustainable way to achieve the change we need to see in the world, but it is a critical way to cultivate community, joy, and the central importance of rest. Creative writing is a form of expression that uses the act of writing to process our emotions and inner thoughts. This session is designed to clear and calm the mind by processing your thoughts and emotions, whilst connecting to your inner self and those around you. In this creative writing session, Community Care Collective, a global community of grassroots advocates shining a light on community care and radical love, and ending taboo and shame on topics such as mental health, will lead a session designed to process our thoughts and feelings and build community and joy, through the use of the humble pen and paper.
Self-Care Workshop – Caring for the Body & Mind with The Body Agency

The Body Agency aims to be a single source for all things fem-care, normalising the conversation around women’s natural being and eliminating “fem-shame” once and for all. In this session, you will get free samples and demonstrations of a range of The Body Agency’s products, designed to relax and heal the body and mind, including sleep gummies, bath salts, menstrual hygiene products, and branded merchandise. You will also learn about the organisation’s ethos and more about what they do to advocate for the self-care and wellbeing of women everywhere.
Wellness Workshop – The Art of Self-Care

Led by a skilled instructor, this unique experience allows you to channel your creativity and explore themes of self-care, burnout, imposter syndrome, and goal setting through painting. Mental Health in the Social Justice Sector: Prospira Global’s Insights

Kate Spade New York’s mission is to empower women and girls around the world by putting mental health at the heart of their social impact work. In partnership with Prospira Global – a business and philanthropic advisory agency that focuses on mental health and social impact – they have conducted a research study on the connections between women’s mental health and empowerment, the mental health-related struggles women often face, and how mental health is prioritised across the gender sector. Prospira Global will be presenting a summary of the results of this study in the Self-Care Lounge, as well as in a session with Kate Spade New York as a part of the main conference schedule.
Wellness Workshop – Burnout

Join Shahroo Izadi’s workshop on burnout, where we’ll equip you with practical tools and resources to effectively manage stress and restore balance in your life. Traditional Rwandese Drumming Circle

Embrace the power of Rwandese drumming as a unique form of self-care with our Azizi Life Drumming Class. Regardless of your natural rhythm, our expert instructors will guide you through an immersive experience that celebrates traditional drumming and dancing. The session begins with a captivating mini-performance by talented local performers, offering a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of Rwanda. Then, it’s your turn to dive into the world of drumming and dancing. You’ll learn basic steps and rhythms while immersing yourself in the history and significance of Rwandan dance. Take a breather and explore the rhythmic beats of the traditional drums, allowing yourself to freely express and unleash your creativity. No prior experience or expertise is necessary—this experience is all about having fun and stepping out of your comfort zone.
Dance & Therapeutic Movement Class with Create2030

Has conference sitting got you needing to get up and move? Join Create2030 artist, Joseph “Klassic” Carella, for a unique movement class that combines stretching, breathing and street dancing. Klassic is a FLEXN dancer who was featured on “So You Think You Can Dance,” and has performed at the United Nations. Lincoln Center, the Apollo, World Of Dance, Alvin Ailey, Park Avenue Armory, and more. Klassic strives to make a difference within his community and the world through his art as evident in his PSA for ACLU on “Know Your Rights” and as a lead cast member of “The Missing Element.”
