Dr Mwenya Kasonde is an emergency medicine physician. She served as Assistant Director for Global Health at the Ministry of Health in Zambia before founding the Centre for Global Health in Lusaka. Having worked for the NHS in the UK for many years, she recently returned home to Zambia with a goal to bring her experiences to the country and join the transformation agenda that the sector has embarked upon.
She studied at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. She also holds a diploma in Health Economics from University College Dublin. She currently co-chairs the Gender Equity Hub at Women in Global Health. She is passionate about economic empowerment, women’s rights, global health and attaining Universal Health Coverage for all.
